Dr. Persons is a graduate of Gettysburg College and The Albany Medical College of Union University. He completed his Internship in General Surgery at the Boston University Affiliated Hospitals and his Orthopaedic Surgery Residency at the University of Pittsburgh Orthopaedic Residency Program. A Diplomat of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery, Dr. Persons holds and maintains recertification for the practice of Orthopaedic Surgery. He also has held a Subspecialty Certificate in Orthopaedic Sports Medicine since 2010 and is participating in the Maintenance of Certification Program. Dr. Persons is a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the Medical Society of Virginia, as well as the Virginia Orthopaedic Society.
Dr. Persons and his wife live in Suffolk, Virginia, where they have raised their four children. An elder of Suffolk Presbyterian Church and a Board Member of the Suffolk Family YMCA, Dr. Persons is a member of the Rotary Club of Suffolk and Suffolk Sister Cities International. He enjoys playing golf and attending local lacrosse and football games. Dr. Persons provided sports team physician coverage to high schools in Suffolk for over 15 years.
